HULL KR coach Craig Sandercock hailed his players' spirit after beating second-placed Huddersfield 35-28 and admitted it was a performance which had been coming.
The win strengthens Rovers' grip on a top-eight place after picking up two points from one of their best games of the season so far.
Sandercock's side, who led 10-0, had to rally from 22-10 down just before half-time to put the Giants on the back foot in the second half with three tries in six minutes.
"We are starting to improve, we are playing with a lot more discipline and a lot more composure which is very pleasing," said Sandercock.
"The last time we played Huddersfield the penalty count was 7-1 after 15 minutes. But we are slowly starting to turn around those lop-sided penalty counts.
"We showed when we get an even share of the ball, we can be competitive against most sides.
"That was a pretty decent standard of rugby league. It was pleasing to come from 22-10 down and have a win against a classy side."
The coach was full of praise for stand-off Travis Burns after he ran Huddersfield ragged with a virtuoso performance which included two tries and three brilliant assists.
Burns, who was named in the Exiles squad along with half-back partner Michael Dobson and prop Mickey Paea, is now showing the fans why KR allowed Blake Green to leave at the end of last season.
"Travis was outstanding and he was the best player on the pitch," said Sandercock.
"He is showing signs that he is getting his game to where he wants it to be.
"Having the three boys named in the Exiles squad is good for our club.
"I'm sure they will give England a good run for their money."
The win against a Huddersfield side which only played four days earlier lifts Rovers to seventh in Super League with nine games left to play, but Sandercock is refusing to get carried away.
"I'm pleased with performance and the boys worked hard, but we're not getting carried away," he said.
"Huddersfield had a very short turnaround and there were some very tired boys out there for them.
"They played on Monday might but they still have class players and we had to play very well to win.
"We got off to a really good start but we let Huddersfield back into the game was too easily."
When asked about his future and the contract offer made to him, he added: "Nothing's been signed, but I'm very positive. I'm on record as saying I want to stay. We're trying to put long-term plans in place and I want to finish what I've started."
