DAVID Miliband MP has urged businesses across the Humber to "connect to the world" in order to secure investment in the region.
The Labour politician was speaking at the YIBC in Bridlington this morning and backed the work of businesses across the Humber to become leaders in the renewables industry.
He said: "This is a decade of opportunity. We have to make the decisions that will allow us to make the most of it.
"Companies in Hull need to make the most of these opportunities. I would urge businesses to connect to the world.
"We have got to make sure the people in Hull and the Humber are equipped to make a difference when the opportunities come around.
"I'm a big supporter of the renewable energy drive. It's the right thing to do and there's room for the Humber and the north east to succeed."
Mr Miliband also stressed the importance of all businesses working together to ensure the region is ready for the potential arrival of Siemens and make sure it is not overlooked by future investors.
Although he could not vote on the Energy Bill amendment, Mr Miliband said he supported the tabled carbon emissions target and felt despite the decision there was still a green energy future for the Humber.
"The key is to link the small companies to the big companies," he said.
"Finally, it's not not just about the existing situation. It's about the future and building for that."
