OUR CHARACTER SHONE THROUGH

ASSISTANT coach Chris Chester believes Hull KR's 28-18 win over Bradford Bulls shows how far the Robins have come in the last two months.

Trailing 8-4 at the break, Rovers went further behind in the 53rd minute when Keith Lulia crossed for Bradford's second try.

But the Robins rallied as tries from Rhys Lovegrove, Lincoln Withers (two) and Craig Hall in the final 24 minutes saw them claim the victory to move into the top eight.

Whilst admitting they were far from at their best, and that it was a game they would probably have lost earlier in the season, Chester was thrilled to pick up the two points.

"It was an ugly win and one we wouldn't have won six weeks ago," he said.

"We showed a lot of character, so we're really happy with the two points.

"The first half was scrappy and that was down to silly individual errors, like kicking out on the full and a few dropped balls. But we got there in the end."

Having picked up a victory which puts Rovers back into the play-offs, they could drop out again tonight if St Helens win at Huddersfield.

But with a home game against Huddersfield to come on Friday night, everyone in the Robins' camp is focused on their own efforts.

"We go level with Bradford after this win and it's only point difference that splits us now," said Chester, who spoke to the media instead of coach Craig Sandercock.

"It's a very even competition and we have to make sure we beat the teams around us.

"We have some tough games coming up, like Huddersfield on Friday night, and now we are in the top eight, we have to stay there.

"We know they are one of the form teams in the competition, though, and we know we have to improve a hell of a lot from this performance.

"We've played well the last few weeks and gained a lot of confidence.

"We were disappointed with last week's result, so it's nice to get a win in front of the home fans."

Rovers have no fresh injury concerns to report, but it has been confirmed that centre Kris Welham has had a shoulder reconstruction which will rule him out for the season.

But Sean Gleeson, who is yet to play for Rovers, is training and could make his long-awaited debut against Catalan in Toulouse on June 22, the week after Super League takes a break for England's game with the Exiles.
