Public inquiry over use of town holiday park

EAST YORKS: A public inquiry is to be held on Tuesday into a row over the use of a holiday park near Beverley.

East Riding Council recently agreed to take enforcement action against the owners of Lakeminster Park, in Hull Road, Woodmansey, for breaching previous planning approval for the land to be used for temporary holiday use.

Permission for the site granted in 2006 limits the occupation of caravans on the site for holiday use only and prevents people using them as their main place of residence.

Earlier this year a retrospective application by Lakeminster Park developer William Flannigan to allow permanent occupancy was rejected by East Riding Council.

On the first day of the inquiry, which starts in County Hall at 10am, statements will be heard on behalf of the landowner, occupant and East Riding Council.

The inquiry is expected to last between two and three weeks and will run from Tuesday to Friday each week.

EAST YORKS: Private and secret gardens connected with Beverley Minster will be opened up to the public on Sunday, June 16, for a two-hour journey of discovery.

The event will be followed by cream tea in the churchyard.

The gardens, all owned or maintained by members of the congregation and located near the church, are being opened to visitors from 2pm to 4pm.

It is raising funds for the minster.

Beverley Minster vicar Jeremy Fletcher, pictured, said: "Some of the best views of the minster are from the gardens which surround it.

"I hope people enjoy the beauty of the gardens and the views from them."

Tickets to view all 20 gardens cost £3 per person and include a map showing where to find each one.

Tickets can be bought at all gardens and newcomers may pick up the trail by following posters in Highgate and Railway Street.

EAST YORKS: Tractor enthusiasts and members of the Young Farmers' Club are joining forces for charity tomorrow.

They will take to the roads for their sixth charity run to raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution.

The tractors will leave Laburnum Farm, Etton, near Beverley, at 10am, for a round road trip covering about 30 miles passing through North Dalton, Warter and Market Weighton.

The previous events have raised more than £6,500.

Jenny Sleight, one of the organisers, said: "If you see the tractors please support them with a friendly wave.

"Collectors will accompany the parade as it follows the planned route and donations will be gratefully received for the two charities."

EAST YORKS: Bus and rail travellers in Driffield will have the opportunity to raise issues and find out more about public surgery at a special surgery next week.

The event takes place at Driffield Market, Market Place, Driffield, on Thursday, from 10am to 3pm.

Adam Fowler, community environment officer at The City of Hull and Humber Environment Forum, said: "This is your opportunity to say your say about local services whether it's timetabling, bus passes, bus stops, publicity, fares or just find out about recent changes.

"These travel surgeries are a really useful way for passengers to find out about local bus and train services, raise issues and make comments."
