ASTON Villa keeper Shay Given is on the lookout for a new club after being told to look for first-team football elsewhere.

Having starting the campaign as Villa's number one, the 37-year-old former Republic of Ireland keeper lost his place to former Hull City loan star Brad Guzan.

Now, the Republic of Ireland keeper appears to have accepted a move is his best option, despite having three years remaining on his current deal at Villa Park.

"I had a meeting with manager Paul Lambert. We both agreed that I should be playing first-team football. And that's not happening at Villa right now," Given said.

Given signed a five-year deal when he was signed by Alex McLeish from Manchester City in July 2011.

However, after the first two Premier League games of the season, he was linked with moves away and even mentioned as a possible target for Steve Bruce at Hull City at one stage.

Bruce may well look at the former Newcastle and Sunderland keeper once again given his availability, but as Given has three years remaining on his deal, on a high wage, negotiations over his exit from Villa, and his wage demands, could make a move to the KC difficult.

Former Tigers loanee Guzan, 28 has made himself Villa's number one with an impressive season.

Signed five years ago by Martin O'Neill, he played a key role in Villa's Premier League survival and has been backed by former Villa goalkeeping rival Brad Friedel, to establish himself as Villa's first choice keeper for the next 10 years.
