Opinion by Mail columnist Angus Young.
Hull City's recent promotion party at the KC Stadium was very different to the club's last celebration marking elevation to the Premier League.
The 2008 event became famous for two incidents – Dean Windass wobbling his way along the City Hall balcony with the play-off trophy in his hand and the near decapitation of then club chairman Paul Duffen.
The latter came close to parting company with his head courtesy of a railway bridge while riding on the open-top bus down Holderness Road.
I was reminded of his close shave while sailing down the River Hull the other day in the company of the crew of city councillors.
The barge trip was intended to give them an insight into the levels of silt in the river, as well as the condition of some of the wharves.
On the day, water levels were about 3ft higher than normal thanks to the continuing impact of the wet winter.
As a result, we were warned that getting under a few of the bridges along the route might be a bit of a squeeze.
As it turned out, sailing under the Ennerdale Bridge in Kingswood saw a frantic last- minute scramble for safety as councillors ducked low or hit the deck.
Up on the prow, Councillor Dave Craker narrowly avoided having his head removed from his shoulders, as my exclusive picture shows.
Typically, big Dave shrugged off his near-death experience.
"Well, that was a bit close," he said afterwards as we emerged from under the bridge, slightly shaken and most definitely stirred.
Soprano with time on her handsHELPED by her long blonde hair and glossy smile, Andrea Jenkyns attracted several headlines recently after being selected by the Conservatives to stand against Labour's Ed Balls at the next General Election.
At the time, the Beverley-born singing soprano revealed she was unfazed at the possibility of winning and then having to juggle jobs, as she was already a county councillor in Lincolnshire.
Well, it seems she might have a bit more spare time on her hands come 2015, having just lost her council seat in Boston North West.
Earlier this month, she was trounced by Ukip as the Tory vote in her ward slumped by 2.2 per cent.
Perhaps that explains why her own website is currently offline, although officially it's "due to maintenance".
