A MOTHER has appeared in court accused of murdering her five-week-old daughter.
Natasha Sultan, 21, did not enter a plea to the charge she murdered Amelia-Lilly Sultan-Curtis.
Miss Sultan, of Welton Grove, north Hull, appeared in the dock at Hull Magistrates' Court yesterday morning.
She spoke only to confirm her name, address and date of birth.
Members of Miss Sultan's family were sitting in the public gallery during the five-minute hearing.
They declined to comment when they left court.
Miss Sultan will appear at Hull Crown Court today, where a judge will be asked to consider whether she can be granted bail.
As previously reported, Amelia-Lilly died from head injuries at Hull Royal Infirmary on October 8 last year.
Miss Sultan was arrested and released on bail.
After a police investigation lasting seven months, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised police to charge her with murder on Wednesday.
The court clerk told Miss Sultan she was charged with murdering Amelia-Lilly between October 6 and October 9 last year, which can only be dealt with at the crown court.
Miss Sultan was represented by Lindsay Kirk, who asked for the case to be heard at Hull Crown Court today so a bail application could be made.
Presiding magistrate Fiona Harding told Miss Sultan: "We don't deal with your case here. You will appear tomorrow in the crown court.
"Until then, you are remanded in custody. That is all for today."
Miss Sultan has shared several photographs of her daughter on her public Facebook page, including a picture of her cradling Amelia-Lilly shortly after she was born.
Alongside one image, posted on December 14 last year, she wrote: "My sweet little angel forever young baby girl mummy and daddy love you more than words can describe R.I.P darling grandad will b looking after u now."
After the charge was announced, a spokesman for Humberside Police said: "The child died of head injuries in October last year. An investigation was launched straight away and enquiries have been taking place since this time.
"The mother was arrested and released on police bail while these inquiries were undertaken."
Amelia-Lilly's funeral was held on January 8, when she was buried at Northern Cemetery in Chanterlands Avenue, west Hull.
