CONTROVERSIAL plans to increase the size of North Ferriby by almost a third have been refused.
National property developer St Modwen wants to build 510 houses in Melton Fields on countryside next to the village. Residents have campaigned against the plans, with 2,000 either signing a petition or sending a letter to the council urging the proposals to be refused. East Riding Council's planning committee today rejected the application. The main reason for refusing the plan was that the land is designated for industrial development.
