A MAN who threatened to kill his ex-partner with a knife and fork has been jailed.

Christopher Aaron Scarah, 26, burst into his former girlfriend's house in a jealous rage.

Despite her mother's attempts to protect her and get Scarah to leave her home in Bransholme, he grabbed cutlery from the kitchen to threaten her.

Scarah forced open the door to where she was hiding using a fork and then waved it in her face.

He then grabbed a knife and threatened to kill her.

Hull Crown Court heard Scarah has three previous convictions dating back to 2007 for assaulting the same woman.

Judge David Tremberg described what he did as "terrifying" and jailed Scarah for two years.

Prosecutor Phillip Evans said Scarah became jealous after the pair split up.

He added: "There is a history of violence and intimidation prior to their separation last April.

"She says she suffered in silence."

Scarah burst into her home at 5.30pm on January 17. Mr Evans said: "He took a fork from the cutlery draw, he used the fork to open the door behind which she had taken refuge and waved the fork in her direction.

"He went back to the kitchen and returned with a knife.

He demanded his former partner tell their children that she had a new partner.

"He said 'if you do not tell the truth, I swear to God I will stab you'. She was terrified by this."

The victim's mother had gone to a neighbour's house to call the police and they arrived to arrest him.

When they came in the house Scarah resisted arrest and assaulted two officers, punching and kicking one and placing another in a headlock.

Scarah pleaded guilty to making threats to kill, assault and assaulting two constables.

Judge Tremberg gave him a three-year restraining order not to contact the woman or their three children.

He told him: "You have previous convictions for domestic violence against this very same complainant.

"These matters represent a significant escalation in seriousness of your offending. The victim was your ex-partner and this all took place in her own home.

"You were drunk, angry and very aggressive and you decided to frighten and intimidate the complainant with some really unpleasant violence.

"You threatened her with a fork and then armed yourself with a knife, which you brandished towards her.

"She thought she was going to die, which you hoped she would.

"When the police arrived you were still not in control of yourself and you behaved in a disgraceful way to them while they were providing a service to the public.

"I'm afraid in my judgment only a custodial sentence is appropriate for this."

Scarah, of no fixed address, told the court he was ashamed of his conduct.
