TWO workers at an Indian restaurant were arrested in front of diners after a raid by police and border officials.
The Bangladeshi men, aged 47 and 23, were led away after being arrested on suspicion of staying in the UK after their visas had expired.
The raid happened at the Amaan restaurant in Hull Road, Anlaby, at 7.45pm on Friday and was a joint operation by the UK Border Agency and Humberside Police.
A spokesman for the UK Border Agency said: "Steps are now being taken to remove them from the country."
The restaurant was closed after the raid.
One diner said: "We were in the restaurant at about 7.45pm when it was raided by border control and police. We saw at least one person being taken away for questioning.
"We left the restaurant because it left only two in the kitchen preparing meals.
"When we went past the restaurant later about 9.45pm, it was closed with all the shutters down."
Colin Flynn, of the Home Office immigration enforcement team for Yorkshire and Humber, said the border agency has dedicated teams to target people working illegally.
He said: "Illegal working is not a victimless crime. It undercuts honest businesses, cheats the treasury of vital funds and deprives legitimate job-seekers employment opportunities. We have specialist and dedicated teams and we will continue to clamp down on this kind of activity.
"We would appeal to members of the public with specific and detailed information about suspected illegal working to get in touch."
The manager of the restaurant, who would not give his name, said: "It happened. What more is there to say?
"We closed after it but opened again the next day."
A spokesman for Humberside Police said: "We can confirm police were also involved to address some minor breaches of licensing legislation.
"Police are working with the operator to ensure these breaches are rectified."
