STALLS at Cottingham's first food festival are in high demand, organisers have said.
At least 30 East Riding producers will be selling county-grown vegetables, meat and beer from stalls in Market Green.
Demand for stalls has been high since plans for the festival were announced in December by Cottingham South Councillor Helen Green.
She hopes it will bring hundreds of people to the village, echoing the success of Cottingham Day and the Christmas lights switch-on, which draw crowds up to 17,000 strong.
"I want to showcase what we've got here," Cllr Green said.
"We're going to have East Riding brewers, we're going to have fish and we're going to have bakers and cheese- makers and meat producers.
"We've got some of the longest coastline in the country, so we should have some fantastic fish."
She hopes the festival will also cater to those studying at the University of Hull and has planned it for freshers' week.
Hundreds of students rent rooms at The Lawns in Harland Way.
"We hope it's going to be a welcome to the village for the students," Cllr Green said.
"One of my ideas is to have five-minute recipes for students within the festival programme.
"Lots of stall-holders are looking forward to it."
The day will be launched by East Riding Council chairman Claude Mole.
It will involve Cottingham traders, pubs and restaurants. A marquee in the village centre will host cookery demonstrations.
"I'm hoping we will be selling the food that's cooked," Cllr Green said.
"All the food will be from the East Riding only.
"We live in a fantastic part of the country and we could almost be self-sufficient."
Primary schoolchildren will be asked to design a logo for the day, which Cllr Green intends to organise with a small group of village businesspeople.
It has been fixed for Sunday, September 22, meaning the festival will fall roughly halfway between the village's other two big events.
Cottingham Day, a celebration bringing together performers, vintage cars and bands, is being held on Saturday, July 6.
The Christmas lights display is the biggest in the East Riding and its switch-on in early December is likely to be watched by thousands.
