AN ELDERLY couple were stabbed in their bed, a court has heard.
Irene Dale, who is in her 70s, died at her home in Summergangs Road, east Hull, on Saturday.
Her husband Allan, who is in his 80s, suffered serious injuries after he was also stabbed.
A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared at Hull Youth Court this morning charged with murdering Mrs Dale and attempting to murder Mr Dale.
He did not enter a plea during the five-minute hearing.
Police were called to the couple's house at 3.30am on Saturday and found both had suffered serious injuries.
Mrs Dale was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary.
The boy was arrested outside Primark in Hull city centre, which was cordoned off for most of Saturday.
Police said the boy was known to the couple and they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the stabbings.
Magistrates remanded him in custody and he will appear at Hull Crown Court on Wednesday.
