A giant new sculpture built in Hull is set to welcome the world to Britain at Heathrow Airport.
The 77-tonne sculpture, called Slipstream, was revealed to the media today.
It has been designed and built by Hull engineering firm Commercial Systems International Ltd and will soon take pride of place in Heathrow's new Terminal 2 building.
Slipstream was the brainchild of acclaimed artist Richard Wilson and features the movement of a jet plane moving through the sky – leaving a trail of curved and swirling metal in its wake.
The artwork is currently cut into its 23 vast component sections in a Sutton Field Industrial Estate warehouse, but will soon be making its way by road to London.
When in place, suspended 20m above ground level in the airport, it will be the longest art sculpture in Europe.
