PUPILS of a west Hull primary school sang their hearts out to come runners up in a national competition organised by Songs Of Praise.
Millions of fans of the BBC show saw talented members of Hymers College Junior School's choir appear in the grand final screened yesterday.
Tracey Redhead, head of music at the school, said: "I am extremely proud of the children.
"For us to come runners up is amazing. It is a fantastic achievement for the children.
"They did their very best and sang really well.
"It was a very emotional day for them. They were so thrilled to get to the final."
The final was filmed at the Liverpool Convention Centre and was hosted by Aled Jones.
The 40-strong choir from the Hymers Avenue school impressed judges, including Myleene Klass.
Schools wishing to take part in the competition were required to submit a CD of their choir singing.
More than 100 choirs submitted entries and judges picked just six to sing at the convention centre.
Three choirs from across the country appeared in the final.
Mrs Redhead said: "This has really, really helped with their confidence and self esteem.
"It has given them something to work at and perfect and they have performed to such a high level.
"To think they were one of only three in the country to get in the final and they are from Hull is incredible.
"The judges mentioned again about their diction and how good it was.
"They also noted how many boys were in our choir as most don't have nearly as many."
The judging panel comprised coach, producer and chart- topping singer David Grant, world-renowned conductor and choral director Suzi Digby and presenter of Pop Star To Opera Star and concert pianist Myleene Klass.
