HULL KR winger Dave Hodgson says the Robins will be able to put a firm focus on improving skills when heading to their warm-weather camp in Tenerife next week.

Five weeks into their pre-season, Hodgson admits sessions have been something of a slog so far, with raising fitness levels the priority.

However, heading into the better conditions for a week, Hodgson expects coach Craig Sandercock to take full advantage and get the Robins working with the ball in hand.

"It will be good to get to Tenerife and get out on the field with the ball in hand and focus on our attacking skills and plays," said last season's top try-scorer.

"Much of pre-season has been about fitness so far, and there have been some tough sessions for us.

"Getting out to Tenerife should allow us to plan our training sessions better and be out there every day in good conditions, which allows us to focus on perfecting our skills.

"At present you can find the conditions here mean training sessions are moved or altered because at times they are not suited to skills drills."

Hodgson is looking forward to using the break to work on his partnership with left-sided centre Kris Welham, as the pair look to rediscover the form which made them a devastating partnership in the early stages of last season.

"I just take every week as it comes without trying to set too many targets, but I am looking forward to playing alongside Kris again," Hodgson said.

"It went well for me last season, but playing alongside a quality centre like Kris, you are always going to get plenty of chances to score tries.

"Hopefully, we can do the same together this season."
