HULL FC coach Peter Gentle is eager to bring in a half-back this season to strengthen his side's bid for honours.
The Mail understands Hull are currently exploring their options with regard to both this season and next following the departure of Brett Seymour, which was confirmed earlier this week.
Seymour's departure has left Hull with both the money and increased need to find a half-back.
Having struggled to do just that both last season and in the off-season, Hull know they face an uphill task to bring in a replacement.
But, unlike last year, they now have more room to manoeuvre with Seymour off the salary cap.
Gentle is understood to be adopting a cautious approach, eager to not fill a hole for the sake of it, with next season also firmly in the Aussie's mind.
Hull are considering a number of options, with Wests Tigers scrum-half Jacob Miller among the candidates being considered.
Eager to solve a half-back headache that has caused problems since the coach's arrival last season, Gentle could turn to a player he knows well in Miller.
The 20-year-old former Aussie Schoolboys scrum-half was handed a first-team debut in the NRL two years ago while Gentle was assistant coach at Wests, with the two still close friends.
Hull spoke to Miller at the end of last season about joining for the 2013 campaign.
A deal looked a possibility until Wests sacked Tim Sheens and appointed new head coach Mick Potter, who was eager to keep hold of the promising young Aussie.
Miller is out of contract at the end of the year and with two rising stars coming through the Wests under-18s team, he's not expected to be offered a new deal by the Tigers.
The 20-year-old started the season for Wests, but has recently been out of favour.
Speculation has intensified in the past 48 hours that Miller could be a Hull player by the end of next week, although sources have told the Mail it may not be as cut and dried as that.
While Miller is understood to be top of the list, the youngster's availability for this season and the difficulty of arranging a visa and work permit may see Hull look elsewhere for a solution which suits their short and long-term needs.
