Hull City fans will descend on the KC Stadium tonight hoping to roar the team on to Premier League glory.

A win against Bristol City at the KC Stadium would put the Tigers within touching distance of promotion to top-flight football for only the second time in the club's history.

City are six points clear of third-placed Watford, with both teams having three games left.

A win tonight would mean anything less than a victory for Watford against Blackburn on Saturday would guarantee the Tigers promotion.

Chris Smith, 64, media and marketing officer at the Hull City Official Supporters' Club, has been a supporter for more than 50 years.

He said: "It is a must-not-lose game against Bristol City. It is another tough match and we need to produce our best performance.

"If we can score an early goal then we will not look back and it will really get the crowd going.

"I would love to get even the West Stand singing. It would be great if we could get the whole ground resonating.

"City never do things the easy way but we have got to be favourites to go up in second place.

"The champagne is ready on chill. This is the most important game of the season.

"Fans really need to get behind Steve Bruce and the players as much as possible. Keep the faith."

City secured a spot in the Premier League in 2008 but lost their top-flight status two seasons later. This time around, fans are more optimistic about the future.

Andy Dalton, editor of Amber Nectar fanzine, said: "When City fell back to the Championship in 2010 with crippling financial woes, it seemed unlikely we'd return to the Premier League any time soon.

"To do so would be a stunning achievement, with great credit going to the owners and all of the managers since then, each of whom left things in better shape than they found them.

"Promotion is vital to a club whose finances have been so recently troubled, and it will also reward an owner whose support has been invaluable, as well as a manager and players who have consistently entertained this season.

"It will benefit Hull as a whole – nothing else in sporting terms can come close to the prestige of the Premier League, it improves our city's image at home and overseas and hopefully means a generation of kids can grow up taking pride in their home town team competing on the biggest stage.

"Going into the weekend's games, it's hard not to feel confident. Watford's struggles mean one win should do it, ideally tomorrow, so we can have a stress-free run-in."

Tigers fans up and down the country are already looking forward to a return to the top flight and believe City can make their mark on the Premier League.

Mike Scott, from the Hull City Southern Supporters' group (HCSS), said: "HCSS have been impressed with the relentless nature of Steve Bruce's side throughout the season. We have rarely lost two games in a row and have win more than our fair share of close games.

"City are better equipped for the Premier League already, and if we can keep Bruce this summer, he will be in demand, of that there is no doubt. Then we have a decent chance of surviving in the highest league."
