Speculation suggests Hull Stingrays could make Guillaume Doucet their first new signing for the 2013-14 campaign.
The 26-year-old Canadian winger has spent the last two seasons at French side Morzine Avoriaz, including one alongside Belfast's Colin Shields.
Doucet's agent tweeted earlier this week that the player was on his way to Britain's Elite League, although did not specify which club.
However, given his CV, which includes stints at Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and McGill University, fans immediately suggested the snuggest fit would be among the league's smaller outfits.
As well as Stingrays, those destinations included Dundee, Fife and Edinburgh.
The latest speculation suggests Rapid Solicitors Stingrays are set to be Doucet's British debut club.
Asked about Doucet, Stingrays' team owner Bobby McEwan said: "I suppose it's that time of the year when the rumour mill goes into overdrive, but I don't want to start commenting every time someone tells us we're signing this player or that player.
"All I can say is we finished bottom of the table last season, so it's obvious we're looking to improve the team to avoid a repeat.
"It's only natural we'll be linked with a lot of players, both here and abroad."
