MATTY Fryatt will look to take a significant step back towards first-team contention when he features in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Birmingham on Wednesday.
Fryatt has not played a Championship fixture in almost 12 months after undergoing surgery on a ruptured Achilles.
But providing there are no ill-effects, the 27-year-old will push to be involved in City's final five games.
"He has trained now for the last three weeks," said boss Steve Bruce
"He will hopefully play 20 minutes to half an hour, just for his own head, really.
"We think he is fit and I think he knows that he is close. However, the kid has been out for six months.
"It's a big call to think we put him straight back in the team, if at best, he is going to be a sub. But we'll see what this week brings."
