A FORMER coach of Hull FC's two-try debut maker Jamie Shaul believes the full-back has what it takes to go all the way.
Dean Reacher, now assistant coach at East Hull, coached Shaul in his one full season in Skirlaugh's first team before he was snapped up by the Black and Whites.
Speaking after Shaul's dream debut at Wakefield, Reacher said: "He's definitely got the ability and the right mentality to get to the top.
"Jamie was a bit of a late developer but we always knew he had the quality to play professionally," he told the Mail.
"His speed and agility were top class at that level and he was constantly terrorising defences.
"He's a really nice lad and fairly laid-back but was great to have around the dressing room for his banter.
"He was always very approachable at Skirlaugh and still has mates at the club who he keeps in contact with.
"He listens to the right people, which will benefit him in the future, and is completely dedicated to what he wants and has a great opportunity.
"Making his debut won't go to his head as he has his feet firmly on the ground."
Originally a half-back when he joined Skirlaugh, Shaul was moved to full-back for more game time and became a revelation in the role.
"He was constantly on the phone to me wanting more first-team chances and had to be patient," continued Reacher.
"We moved him to full-back and once he got into the team he really stepped up a gear.
"He made the position his own and scored in nearly every game for us, which got him spotted by Hull FC.
"He scored five tries in a match at York being watched by England coach Steve McNamara, who was very impressed.
"It's great to see him doing so well.
"I texted him after the game to tell him how chuffed I was for him.
"All of us who worked with him will be wishing him all the best and following his career very closely."
