A former deputy editor of the Hull Daily Mail has died after a brave battle with cancer.
Mel Cook, 51, was born in Hull and spent nine years at the Mail before leaving in 2008 to become editor of the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
For the past year he had been editor of the Nottingham Post.
He was diagnosed with cancer last autumn but continued to work during treatment.
Mel's daughter Ellie, 16, said her father had fought the illness with courage and positivity.
She said: "My Dad was the most caring and honourable man with a great sense of humour and a real thirst for life.
"He had recently found happiness again only to have this most cruel of illnesses snatch it away from him.
"He bore the illness with courage and above all, positivity which helped him fight it to the bitter end.
"I am so proud of what he has achieved, how he brought the family together and how he made me smile.
"He will always be in my heart."
Steve Hollingsworth, a former advertising director at the Mail who is now publisher of the Nottingham Post, said: "Mel was one of life's good guys - funny, friendly, hard-working, compassionate and a great editor.
"Even through his fight with this most cruel of illnesses Mel remained positive and pragmatic.
"He was a true friend and will be missed by all who knew him."
