A HULL takeaway that was shut down following the discovery of a mouse infestation is open for business once more.
Yorkshire Pizza in Beverley Road was closed after a routine inspection by Hull City Council's environmental health officers.
Council officials served a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice on the owners because of the imminent risk to public health.
But the owner has worked closely with officers to ensure the takeaway, popular with late-night revellers leaving the nearby Welly Club, can reopen.
Trevor Todd, assistant head of service for public protection, said: "Environmental health officers visited the takeaway last week and issued a certificate to confirm the takeaway was no longer a risk to public health.
"Officers from the food hygiene team also visited the premises five times within a two-week period to offer a range of advice on cleanliness and best practices.
"In addition, there were several visits from the pest control team.
"The advice provided to Yorkshire Pizza will support them in reopening and running a business safely and without causing a health risk to the public."
A spokesman for Yorkshire Pizza admits the takeaway has learnt a lot from the experience.
He said: "The environmental health officers have given us valuable advice and we now have a professional cleaner who does five or six hours a week.
"We have learnt a very valuable lesson.
"Our message to customers is that we are open again for business and we are cleaner than we've ever been before."
At Hull Magistrates' Court last month, a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order was granted against the takeaway.
The council's inspection team found the premises to be dirty throughout and discovered evidence of an extensive mouse infestation, including a dead mouse.
A number of food items had to be binned as they were being stored in a mouse-infested area.
The inspection resulted in Yorkshire Pizza being rated as zero on the food hygiene rating scheme.
