The most eagerly-anticipated derby game for decades was played out in an atmosphere few inside the KC that day will ever forget.
Hull were clear favourites to win the 199th derby as the beaten Grand Finalists from the previous season, while Rovers were the new kids on the block, but what followed was a nip and tuck game.
Danny Tickle scored the first-ever Super League derby try in the sixth minute, before great work by Paul Cooke sent Shaun Briscoe in for 12-0.
Unconverted tries either side of half-time, first from Luke Dyer for KR, then Matt Sing for FC left the score 16-4, before KR began to dominate.
David Tangata-Toa and Andreas Bauer got Rovers back to within two points, before in the last minute Sid Domic's try settled the game for Hull.September 2, 2007: KC StadiumHull FC 6 Hull KR 42
In front of a record derby crowd at the KC of 23,004, Rovers produced a memorable performance to secure their Super League survival with two games to spare.
The Robins dominated from start to finish and, inspired by Paul Cooke, took a 16-0 lead into the break, thanks to tries from Jason Netherton and a brace from Luke Dyer.
Mark Lennon, James Webster, Stanley Gene and two from Rhys Lovegrove sealed the win in front of a passionate away support.

Having been beaten by a record score at the KC in 2007, FC took the chance to break the records themselves with their biggest-ever derby win.
Hull had endured a torrid season, and while a Challenge Cup final appearance was still to come, this victory remained a highlight in an otherwise forgettable season.
The score will live long in the memory of Hull fans, but it was the stand-out performance of Tom Briscoe, including THAT try, which is the game's defining moment.
Graeme Horne, Craig Hall, Matt Sing, Scott Wheeldon and two tries for Kirk Yeaman helped Hull on their way, but it was Briscoe's two tries, topped by his solo length-of-the-field effort which caught the eye.July 15, 2010: KC StadiumHull FC 20, Hull KR 14
This derby that had it all. Almost two years ago to the day since announcing himself on the big stage, Tom Briscoe produced another defining moment.
This time it was a last-minute tackle on Peter Fox that denied Rovers a chance to draw the game.
Passion, points, fights, great tackles, the game had it all as Hull edged arguably the most hard-fought derby since the first Super league encounter three years previously.
Mark Calderwood and Ben Cockayne spent time in the sin-bin, Hull's inability to convert possession into points almost cost them and Rovers never gave in, as the KC came alive once again.
Hull went into the game without Sean Long, Mark O'Meley and Craig Fitzgibbon, but with a patched-up side got the better of their rivals.September 11, 2010: KC StadiumHull FC 4 Hull KR 21

It was another performance in which they dominated and claimed victory with surprising ease.
Tries from Peter Fox and Ben Fisher put Rovers on their way to a third win in six visits to the KC Stadium.
A penalty from Michael Dobson, a further try from Kris Welham and a Scott Murrell drop-goal sealed the Robins' win to take them through to face Wigan and eliminate their biggest rivals.May 26, 2012: Etihad Stadium, ManchesterHull KR 32 Hull FC 30
David Hodgson's last-gasp try gave Rovers the edge in this thriller to make it four wins from four over their rivals at Magic weekends.
The Robins were 30-16 down with just 15 minutes to go but late tries from Sam Latus and Michael Dobson brought KR back.
FC had led for the majority of the match with tries from Tony Martin, Willie Manu, Brett Seymour, Jordan Turner and Richard Horne. However, Rovers scored through Craig Hall and Shannon McDonnell, with Hodgson grabbing an earlier one before skinning Will Sharp in the final seconds to create pandemonium.
