HULL city council leader Steve Brady has delayed the closure of Anlaby Park Library by two months.
The library in west Hull - which is closing as part of the council's cost-cutting plans - will now shut its doors at the end of May.
Mr Brady said the delay is to allow community groups more time to consider whether they can take over the running of the library.
He said: "I have made the decision that it is going to remain open for a further two months until the end of May, to enable community groups to come forward with viable propositions to take on the running of the facility.
"We will assist these groups as much as we can with the preparation of their plans.
"Listening to the concerns of the community and the representations from the Hull West and Hessle MP Alan Johnson, helped me to make this decision. "Tough decisions will continue to be made but where possible we will listen to our local communities such as in the case of Anlaby Park Library."
