RUGBY fans inundated Hull FC star Brett Seymour with messages of support after his wife revealed he is battling depression.
Roseanne Seymour has spoken of her shock after her husband overturned his BMW after crashing into two parked cars.
She told well-wishers on a Facebook page: "I'm suffering from severe shock that my husband was so desperate and could attempt such a horrific thing.
"He is getting the help he needs and your support has helped greatly. Depression is a silent killer. I want each and every one of you to know that we feel so grateful to you."
Seymour spent the night in Hull Royal Infirmary after the crash in Itlings Lane, Hessle, at 10.30pm on Sunday.
He did not suffer any serious injuries and was discharged the following afternoon.
Posting on the Facebook page "Brett Seymour get well soon" on Tuesday, Mrs Seymour wrote: "The past 48 hours have been extremely difficult.
"Thank you so very much for all your kind words and support.
"Words can't express how grateful Brett is for your kindness. I just read him your messages and he is overwhelmed."
Hull FC coach Peter Gentle has said the club has been supporting Seymour after the crash.
He said: "We are a tight group and when one of our players is injured or has problems, it affects everyone.
"We genuinely care about each other. We will get through it.
"We were able to keep the players informed as a group that Brett had been in an accident but was OK.
"All the players got round to see him and will continue to support him."
Seymour was placed on leave by the club following the crash.
Fans of both Hull FC and Hull KR have posted their messages of support to the player, who has been criticised by some supporters for his performances on the field.
Seymour was substituted with ten minutes remaining in Saturday night's 36-16 defeat at Widnes.
Writing on the Facebook page, Nicola Lawson said: "Even though it hasn't always come off for you on the pitch Brett, I always think you give 100 per cent effort in the face of huge mostly unjustified criticism.
"Remember winning is just a matter of getting up one more time than you have fallen down."
Shaun Peacock said: "Wanted to wish you a speedy recovery Brett, you are a black and white, one of our own and trust us when we say 95 per cent of the supporters are 100 per cent behind every player who wears our famous old shirt. Can't wait to see you back in that very shirt leading us to many more victories. End of the day, win lose or draw, in any kind of weather we are behind you."
Hull KR fans also put their loyalties aside to wish the Australian sports star well.
Cherie Blenkin wrote: "I'm sending you my love and best wishes for a speedy recovery, regardless of not knowing you personally or me being a red and white.
"When you hit rock bottom like this, remember the only way is up. Whatever was in your mind Brett please wipe the slate clean and start a new today."
The Mail understands the cars Seymour hit both suffered extensive damage.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
