Supporters of Hull City and Huddersfield have issued a joint statement condemning ticket restrictions imposed by police ahead of the Championship match on March 30.

West Yorkshire Police says Tigers fans can only travel to the match on official club coaches.

City have also only been allocated 1,500 tickets for the game, despite the away end at the John Smith's Stadium having a capacity of 4,000.

In the joint statement Stephen King, chairman of the Huddersfield Town Supporters' Association, said: "HTSA is strongly opposed to away ticket sales being restricted to 1,500 tickets. "[Huddersfield Town FC] is losing vital ticket revenue for this eagerly anticipated Yorkshire derby."

The game was originally scheduled to kick off at 12.30pm, but was changed to 5.30pm to allow the match to be shown live on Sky Sports.

Fans say the ticket restrictions will particularly penalise out-of-town supporters. In the same statement, Chris Ashton, vice-chairman of Hull City Supporters' Club, said: "We stand together with HTSA in condemning this decision. "We at HCSC feel that these draconian measures are totally unnecessary and only go to further punish the football supporters of our club. "We have many supporters in the West Yorkshire area and to ask them to travel back to Hull to collect a ticket is utterly preposterous." Meanwhile, fanzine Amber Nectar said the police decision was "unacceptable" and punished fans of both clubs. A post on its website asked Hull City to consider rejecting the ticket allocation. It said: "Amber Nectar, City Independent and the Hull City Official Supporters Club have joined together to stand as one over this issue. If West Yorkshire Police will not see sense, we urge the Club to take a stand on our behalf, and refuse to accept an allocation of tickets under these conditions."
