COMPULSORY redundancies are not being ruled out in proposals to axe 600 council jobs in Hull.
Budget papers released ahead of next week's full council meeting also warn of a risk of industrial action by unions at the Guildhall over cuts in staffing and changes to terms and conditions.
Jacqui Blesic, the city council's human resources manager, says: "This budget has significant impact on staffing across the council.
"With an estimated 600 full-time equivalent post reductions brought about largely by targeted early termination, some compulsory redundancies may be inevitable."
Just under half of the posts earmarked for the axe have already been announced in so-called "back office" administration areas of the council.
The ruling Labour group's budget plans include a 1.95 per cent increase in council tax bills, the closure of three customer service centres, three motor-based youth projects and Anlaby Park library in west Hull.• See tomorrow's Mail for the full story and reaction
