Danny Houghton: Hull FC must be clinical against Warrington

HULL FC captain Danny Houghton wants a more clinical approach against Warrington, warning too many missed opportunities will cost them dear.

The Black and Whites welcome the undefeated Wolves to the KC Stadium on Saturday night for a televised Super League clash.

Hull head into the game buoyed by a season-best performance in a 22-22 draw at St Helens.

But, having seen his side dominate the last 30 minutes at Langtree Park, Houghton admits the result came with a tinge of frustration.

"We have to be more clinical when we get near the try-line because we bombed a few chances against St Helens and you cannot do that against good teams," he told the Mail.

"We will have to take every chance which comes our way against Warrington on Saturday.

"We've built a fortress at the KC Stadium and Warrington are going to come to our place and be in for a really tough game.

"If we can get our timing right and cut the penalties and soft errors, that will go a long way to us winning."

The two sides played out a draw in the opening game of last season at the KC, with Hull failing to press home their advantage as the Wolves clinched a dramatic late point.

Having beaten Bradford in their first home game of 2013, Hull maintained a proud record under Peter Gentle, who has only tasted defeat once in the league at the KC in his 15-month reign.

Building on their Bulls win, Hull's performance lifted a notch against St Helens as they responded to going behind with a dominant second-half showing.

Houghton says his team-mates have taken confidence from the way they finished against Saints, but he's aware it is a good start which is essential this week.

He added: "After the Saints game, what has frustrated us the most is why can't we start games like we finish?

"We have a chance from the off to put teams to the sword, but we haven't done that and that is frustrating. Against Warrington, we need to start the game well.

"We are not going to say we weren't happy with the point, but we had Saints up against the ropes in the last 30 minutes and we were disappointed not to win.

"We are growing in confidence, though, and our combinations with the halves are growing each week too so that's good news."
