Updated 5.30pm. Motorists are facing hazardous driving conditions in parts of East Yorkshire because of snow and ice. The worst showers today have been in the north of the county and the Wolds, where some areas have seen two inches of snow. However, forecasters say Hull should expect a heavy snow shower this evening, followed by a dry night. More snow is expected across East Yorkshire on Thursday afternoon, followed by heavy rain. The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning because of the icy conditions. Temperatures will drop as low as -2C over the next 24 hours, but it will feel as cold as -6C. Drivers are being warned to take care on the A166 between Driffield and Garrowby Hill, and on the A165 north of Bridlington, where lorries are struggling to climb hills. An accident on the A614 at Shiptonthorpe is delaying traffic. Hazardous conditions have also been reported on the A1079, A1034, on the B1244 at Hornsea, and at Etton, Swanland and in the Howden area. East Riding Council and Hull City Council are gritting the main road network. However, the Highways Agency is urging motorists to take care.
