A ten-week programme of repairs to Hull's Bankside is under way.
Hull City Council is advising businesses and motorists that parts of Bankside will be closed to through traffic and a temporary traffic light system will be in place.
It advises residents and motorists to plan alternative routes where possible for the duration of the works.
Councillor Martin Mancey, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: "These are essential and necessary works to renew the surface to this very busy road.
"The road is failing and given its location, we know and appreciate these roadworks will cause some disruption to motorists."
To minimise disruption to businesses, motorists and residents during peak times, full road closures will be scheduled for evenings and weekends.
