THE city council this afternoon confirmed Peter Mandelson will become the High Steward of Hull.
Lord Mandelson has accepted an invitation to take on the civic role, originally created in 1583, for a ten-year term of office.
Baroness Virginia Bottomley has been confirmed as Sheriff of Hull for a three-year term.
Hull City Council leader Steve Brady said: "The High Steward and Sheriff will work as influencial ambassadors for the city and will raise our profile as we continue to regenerate and work towards becoming a leading energy city and the UK's City of Culture 2017."
