Is it me or is Hull's political world starting to look like an old episode of Spitting Image ?
We've always had John Prescott to provide us with fun and games.
But now, a whole cast of characters from yesteryear are back on the radar.
First it was Michael Heseltine striding down the A63 as the would-be saviour of the Hull and Humber economy, or something similar.
As I watched him talk a lot of sense about shifting power and influence away from Westminster and back to the regions in a round of media interviews, I was struck by his still-impressive head of hair.
Hezza's flowing locks show no sign of thinning, despite his advancing years.
They are truly a sight to behold.
Then came the double whammy of Virginia Bottomley and Peter Mandelson, who are being lined up to be the next Sheriff and High Steward of Hull in a fit of civic pomp and ceremony that somehow jars with the current age of austerity we're all muddling through.
As it happens, the news of the appointments broke as I was halfway through James Naughtie's Rivals, a 2002 book examining the "intimate story of political marriage" between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.
Inevitably, the book also charts the famously frosty relationship between Mandelson and Prescott, who come across as squabbling bridesmaids.
According to Naughtie, Prescott regarded Mandelson as a "pain in the backside".
Mandelson, meanwhile, was taking great delight annoying Old Labour grumpies with the colour of his pink socks.
All we need now is a chorus of The Chicken Song at the installation bash.
