Hull's three MPs will back proposals for same-sex marriage, although it is expected more than 100 Conservative MPs will vote against the Government's legislation. Labour MPs Diana Johnson, Karl Turner and Alan Johnson all intend to vote "yes" when the House of Commons votes on the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill this evening. But although the Prime Minister strongly supports the move, reports suggest more than 120 conservative MPs could vote against, including some Cabinet ministers. Haltemprice and Howden MP David Davis plans to vote "no", although Brigg and Goole MP Andrew Percy will vote "yes". Mr Percy said: "The Government has no right in deciding who marries who and all this Bill does is leave it to religious institutions to decide – that to me seems eminently fair." The Bill will enable same-sex couples to get married in both civil and religious ceremonies, assuming a church or religious organisation has given its consent. It will also allow couples who entered into civil partnerships to convert into a marriage.
