Craig Sandercock: Hull KR must handle close contests against Catalan

HULL KR coach Craig Sandercock hopes his side have learned to close out close games because he is expecting another one against Catalan tomorrow.

Rovers were on the wrong side of three close defeats by the Dragons last season, losing 20-12 in Perpignan and 13-10 at home in the league.

It was a similar tale of heartache in the Challenge Cup when KR outscored their opponents four tries to three but still lost 20-18.

While those matches are still fresh in the memory, Sandercock hopes his new-look side can oversee a change in fortune, especially as he is expecting another nail-biter at MS3 Craven Park.

"I'd say this game will be another close one," said Sandercock, who has five new faces in his 19-man squad.

"Their squad is very strong and they have a lot of depth.

"They were all narrow losses last year to the Dragons but we're hoping to win this time.

"At this stage of the season it's all about getting the two points, no matter what.

"Granted, it is a young squad without superstars, but we do still have a lot of experienced players in our squad.

"Hopefully, the experienced ones will help us get around the park."

And having seen his side pipped at the post too often in the past, Sandercock says the last quarter of the match is crucial tomorrow.

"The final 20 minutes is more important than the first 20," he added. "Catalan have a massive pack and we need to be ready and willing to accept the challenge they will provide."
