HULL: A distraught pet owner is warning others to keep their dog on a lead after her beloved German Shepherd was killed in a main road.
Barbara Clappison, 78, was walking her dog Penny along Robson Way on Sunday when she shot out into the road and was hit by a car at about 4.30pm.
The dog was not on a lead at the time and the driver drove off straight away.
Barbara said: "I will never forgive myself but the driver could have had the common decency to stop and speak to me.
"Three other drivers came to my aid and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
"I want this to be a warning to other dog-walkers, please keep your dog on its lead in all main roads, otherwise you could be going through this heartbreak."
Barbara is asking for the driver of the car to call her on 01482 836708.
HESSLE: Colleagues at The Co-operative food store have chosen their new charity of the year as Carers Trust.
It formed last year when The Princess Royal Trust for Carers and Crossroads Care came together to form one charity.
It will benefit from The Co-operative's staff, members and customers raising much-needed money to tackle feelings of isolation and provide desperately needed breaks and support for 14 to 25-year-olds carers.
Martin Calam, manager of the Hessle store, said: "The challenge of unpaid caring is an often hidden issue, even though it can affect most families at some time.
"We're delighted that Carers Trust is our charity of the year and, that we have the chance to make a difference to the lives of young people in our communities who undertake practical and emotional caring responsibilities."
