HULL KR scrum-half Michael Dobson is confident he can start his captaincy with a win when Catalan Dragons visit MS3 Craven Park on Sunday.

Dobson took over the captaincy when Ben Galea left the club to join Hull at the end of the season.

While he has filled in as captain in the past, this will be his first time in full-time charge of the Robins.

"I'm looking forward to leading the players out on Sunday as captain," Dobson told the Mail. "Hopefully, we can start on the best possible note with a win.

"It would be a relief to win my first match as captain because you don't want to be losing too many games.

"A win would be great but we know it will be hard work.

"We have trained three months for this match and we will be pumped up.

"We have got over pre-season training and all the boys are looking forward to getting out on the pitch and playing for two points.

"I don't know what I'll say to the players before we go out.

"I'll just remind them what we need to do and what we have been working on."

Having ended the previous season disappointingly with just one win from their last 10 games, Rovers are determined to get off to a winning start.

It won't be easy against a Catalan side which is now a genuine play-off threat, but the 26-year-old Aussie can't wait to put right some of the things that went wrong last year.

"We don't want to think about last season too much, but we are looking forward to having a chance to put things right," he added.

"There are plenty of opportunities to put things right, but it might be a slow process.

"However, hopefully at the end of a 35-week season we will be able to benefit from our experience."

With Catalan's Scott Dureau ruled out indefinitely after having a tumour removed from behind his eye in December, Rovers are facing a French side shorn of their main play-maker.

But despite that, Dobson expects the Dragons to be a force to be reckoned with.

"Scott will be a big loss for them," he said.

"But Thomas Bosc isn't a bad replacement to come in.

"They have had a while to prepare for the loss of Scott and they will have worked on things they need to. I'm sure they will be very formidable."
