A BURST water pipe caused travel chaos on Wellesley Road in Croydon this morning.
Repairs to the four inch pipe on St James's Road have been hampered because workers have had to dig out concrete under the road by hand to reach the leak.
Thames Water were told about the ruptured four inch pipe at 11am yesterday and engineers were on site 45 minutes later to investigate.
St James Road is closed between Wellesley Road and Oakfield Road and is still closed causing delays.
At the time of writing (Friday 23, 3pm) the works were almost complete. Thames Water hope to return the road to normal as soon as possible.
A spokeswoman said: "We're sorry to those affected by our repair works. Getting the area back to normal is a priority, and our teams are working as fast as they can in difficult road conditions."
