MATT Daley's stomach upset cost the Hainsworth Park assistant professional dear in his pursuit of his Asian Tour Card.
Playing in the First Qualifying Stage at the Imperial Lake View Golf Club in Thailand, he opened with a level par 72 that provided a firm foundation for his card challenge.
On the evening following this round Daley and his caddie Jason Sim, a Hainsworth Park member went for a meal. They decided on a steak as a change from the local cuisine that had been their staple diet for the previous week.
The following day saw caddie Sim with a severe stomach disorder and Daley far from 100 percent.
As a result, it became a major effort just to complete a round.
Although Daley was able to add a 78 to his level par 72 for a 150 total to make the 36 hole cut, he continued to struggle.
With further rounds of 73 and 78 for a 13-over-par total of 301 he trailed in equal 61st place, well behind the two Australian stage winners on 276 (-12) and 11 shots off the cut mark needed to advance to the Final Qualifying Stage.
Daley said: "I am absolutely gutted.
"I was playing well and after my first round of 72 that could easily have been four or five shots better I was really up for the challenge.
"Then, on the night, Jason and I had the bad meal and thereafter it was a struggle just to play. Given how I felt I did well to make the cut."
Putting the Asian disappointment behind him and looking ahead to the 2013 golf season, Daley will now look to qualify for the PGA Europro Tour. The first qualifying stage is likely to be at Slaley Hall in the first week in April followed by the Final Qualifier at Frilford Heath on April 10-12.
