Residents' anger at repair delays to cracks in houses on Hull estate

RESIDENTS are angry after cracks that appeared on their houses more than a year ago have still not been fixed.

The damage has appeared in houses that had external insulation fitted by SIG.

The company has now been taken over by Help-Link, which says it is trying to help residents whose properties were damaged.

Tony O'Keefe, 72, said trying to get the damage sorted was like "talking to a brick wall".

"They have made a right mess of my house," he said.

"When they first installed it, it came off straight away because it was raining.

"They came back and redid it but then they cut big lumps out of my wall.

"They also took concrete posts out for no reason, which have ruined my fence.

"I have had to put new concrete posts back in.

"I am still waiting for them to get in touch with me about all of that almost a year later. It is like talking to a brick wall."

Mr O'Keefe, who lives in Trawden Close, Bransholme said he does not believe the company will repair his home soon, despite its promise to do so.

"I have been having a running battle with them for almost a year now trying to sort it out," he said.

"Personally, I do not think they will sort my house out any time soon.

"I have only ever had bad experiences with them and I can not see that changing."

Joyce Bostock, 77, has also had her wall damaged after fitting external insulation.

Her daughter, Nadine Burton, said it had been difficult trying to sort out any repair work.

"My mum had this work done and it does save a lot in bills," said Mrs Burton, 41.

"However, for about a year, I have been trying to get in contact with them because cracks appeared in her walls.

"I know they are probably cosmetic, but my mum is almost 80 and she is worried about it.

"I have been trying to get in touch and ringing them, but every time they say they will phone back they never do.

"I am not happy that my mother has been left in this position.

"I am really worried that my mum's wall is just going to fall down."

Rebecca Ormston, a spokesman for Help-Link, said the company was looking to resolve the damage.

She said: "We have resolved the problems at a number of properties and there are four that are still ongoing.

"We have followed up with all four residents to keep them up to date with the progress, but I can confirm that all four properties will have their issues resolved by the end of January at the very latest."
