TEMPORARY traffic lights at one of Hull's busiest junctions caused chaos for commuters this morning. There were serious delays at the junction between Ferensway, Freetown Way, Spring Bank and Beverley Road after one of the traffic lights was hit by a car on Friday. This morning, vehicles were queuing along Spring Bank and Spring Bank West up to Chanterlands Avenue during rush hour. Traffic was also backing up along Beverley Road, with problems reported as far as Cottingham Road. Drivers were frustrated after cones also appeared on the slip lane from Spring Bank to Beverley Road which was being used as a parking area for workers. EYMS described the city as in 'absolute gridlock' and reported delays of up to 50 minutes for its services which run along Spring Bank. The temporary lights went up after one of the traffic lights was knocked over at about 5.30pm on Friday. It is understood a car crashed into one of the lamp posts holding the lights. The original system is back in place, although the damaged lights have not been fixed. A Hull City Council Spokeswoman said: "The traffic system at Spring Bank junction has now been fixed and the lights are working normally." There were problems throughout the weekend with bus services delayed by up to ten minutes on Sunday, with some motorists complaining the queues stretched for an hour. Signs put up by the council have also warned of roadworks in the same area for 'junction modification works' at Beverley Road and Freetown way starting on January 19 for 12 weeks. Updated 10.30am
