Hull City may pick fringe player from likes of Chelsea or Manchester City in transfer window

WITH no activity in the January transfer window just yet, Hull City are being patient, writes Peter Swan.

And for me, that's exactly the way they need to be. A large amounts of cash was spent in the summer, which hasn't quite been justified yet.

Supporters may be left wondering by the lack of action coming from the Allams' wallets, but I imagine there'll be a few targets Steve Bruce has his eye on.

I can see Brucey landing a bargain in this window, as there's possibly a fringe player from the likes of Manchester City or Chelsea who are waiting for an opportunity to shine. Hull City can be that place.

The Tigers boss knows he has the support of the owners when it comes to recruitment, but resources may be stretched too much to land any of the reported targets this month.

The likes of Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe look highly unlikely, even though they will surely add some quality to City.

Adnan Januzaj is another one who I can imagine will demand a hefty wage packet to leave Manchester United.

What City need to unearth is an unproven star hungry for Premier League action. I wouldn't be looking in the Championship, as this transfer window is all about recruiting players that will keep you in the top flight.

There is too much risk bringing in someone from the lower league, in my opinion, but I wouldn't be too surprised to see Bruce pick at some highly-rated star in the lower divisions.

He's done it before in the shape of Harry Maguire, but that was a long-term prospect and not somebody recruited to get the Tigers out of trouble.

Apart from up front, where a goalscorer is desperately needed, I'd like to see an attacking midfielder fill the void left by Mohamed Diame, who looks set to be out of action for a number of months yet with a tendonitis injury.

But for recruitments to be made, the door must be left open for fringe players to leave.

Bruce won't particularly want any of his squad to depart, but if a cash offer comes in, this will free space for a player which I'm sure he has his eyes on.

At the minute, the cards are close to his chest.
