FORMER Hull FC and Hull KR full-back Shannon McDonnell has been handed a trial by NRL side Wests Tigers as he looks to resurrect his rugby league career.
The 27-year-old remains in dispute with the Black and Whites over his cancelled contract and failed to impress St Helens in 2014 after joining the Grand Final winners on a short-team deal.
Wests have since handed McDonnell a lifeline back in Australia, and the full-back, who missed the Old Trafford showpiece with a broken jaw, has until the end of February to potentially earn a second-tier contract for the upcoming season.
McDonnell was handed his NRL debut by Wests ten years ago, and joined Newcastle Knights before signing for the Robins in 2012.
After an injury-prone 18 months at FC, Hull decided to cancel the full-back's contract, something which remains a sticky subject to this day between both parties.
As is stands, McDonnell joins prop and second-rower Wesley Lolo at the Wests on trial and head coach Jason Taylor says the pair will boost the Tigers' squad.
"We were looking to bolster our depth in both of those positions and these guys have been given an opportunity to show us if they are worthy of a contract," he said.
