Transfer talk: Tigers to swoop for Sheffield Wednesday star?

Hull City v Arsenal FA Cup team news

15: Dean Windass 1991-95/2007-2009 Appearances (goals): 242 (82) Deano wasn't noted for his flamboyant hair, choosing throughout his career a sensible short back and sides. But come the 2008 play-off final Deano shaved his hair and bleached it blonde. He then ensured his bleached bonce would be the immortal image to mark his career after banging in the glorious Wembley winner to see City promoted to the Premier League.
14: David Lee 2001-02 Appearances: 11 (1) It was the year S Club 7 and Kylie Minogue were hitting the top of the charts and Basildon-born midfielder David Lee showed he was a follower of fashion with a floppy blonde effort in true pin-up Neighbours' style. Before departing City for a career in the lower leagues, Lee had opted for a more sensible look.
13: Paul Waites 1989-1991 Appearances: 13 (1) Here as much for his admirable clipped moustache and generous hair gel, Paul Waites' "Frankie Goes to Hollywood" look belied his role as a tough-tackling midfielder. He struggled to find a place at City but went on to have a long career in amateur football, even maintaining some of his facial hair in the way of a carefully clipped Italian-style pencil beard.
12: George Boyd 2013-2014 Appearances: 53 (6) Popular with the fans, George Boyd always appeared smaller than his 6ft 1in, probably due to his highly glossy mane of dark hair, held up during games with what appeared to be an old boot lace. Before moving to Burnley, Boyd was always noticeable taking off down the wing with his locks flowing behind him.
11: Peter Halmosi 2008-2011 Appearances: 27 (1) The Hungarian arrived in Hull for £2m after shining with Plymouth Argyll. But his equally gleaming bonce appeared to settle less well in East Yorkshire and he struggled to make any impact in just four league starts before being dumped by Nigel Pearson, not a man to have sympathy for anyone with a metrosexual hairstyle.
10: Peter Swan 1989-1991 Appearances: 88 (25) The City legend and Mail and BBC pundit was a formidable presence on the pitch in a long career that took him across Yorkshire stacking up almost 400 appearances. But while at City, Swanny attempted to catch the late-80s trend with blonde highlights. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately for Swanny, the result was a barnet full of granite grey flecks, much more in keeping with his solid style.
9: Jeff Wealands 1972-1979 Appearances: 240* (* League only) He arrived looking like a movie star, well the hairstyle anyway, and he quickly became a legend with City fans, clocking up 240 appearances in goal for the Tigers and missing just three games in four years. His time at City marked a change in style for Jeff, with his hair rising at least an inch to nearly below his ears before he departed for Birmingham in 1983.
8: Mark Hateley 1997-1998 Appearances: 29 (3) Hull City's lanky player-manager arrived with a pedigree on the pitch thanks to spells at Milan and Monaco. And he brought some Mediterranean style with him as well when sporting a proud flowing mullet recognisable all over the continent. Often accompanied by a diamond-studded earring, Hateley spanned footballing generations between Rudi Voller and Ashley Young.
7: Gordon Staniforth 1974-1976 Appearances: 12 (2) * Hull-born Gordon Staniforth struggled to make a big impact at City but the diminutive 5ft 7in striker made up for his lack of height with a whopping top of hair, perhaps to keep his place in the back row of the official team photo. Sadly Gordon didn't remain in his home city long enough to start his own trend, leaving in 1976 for a successful stint with York City.
6: Jason Price 2003-2006 Appearances: 83 (16) Big-haired Welshman Jason 'JJ' Price revived a faltering career when he joined City on a free from Tranmere and managed a decent 16 goals in 83 appearances for the Tigers. His hair seemed to change with every goal and so he is the only one of our players to have two styles featured in our gallery. After a solid career, JJ now runs his own plumbing business in Leeds. Just don't ask for his bog brush.
5: Paul Haigh 1974-1980 Appearances: 180 (8) * Paul Haigh's blonde locks may have been the fashion, well someone's fashion, but the steel in the Scarborough-born defender's eyes shows why they never seemed to be brushed. Picked out by Billy Bremner as a star of the future because he was 'strong as a bull', Haigh joined Carlisle in a big-money deal before being forced to retire in 1989 after breaking two back bones in a heavy landing while jumping for a header.
4: Dave Roberts 1975-1978 Appearances: 86 (4) * One of football's good old-fashioned hard-men, Welsh defender Dave Roberts still managed to sport one of City's most shockingly camp hairstyles. His wavy blonde mass was a style Dolly Parton would have been proud to sport. It is said Dave used it to deceive opposition players into believing he was a soft touch. Their mistake.
3: Jimmy Bullard 2009-2011 Appearances: 24 (6) No list would be complete without 'Jungle' Jimmy Bullard who pitched up In Hull with a cheeky smile, a freshly bulging wallet, a dodgy knee and a caseload of shampoo. Jimmy once remarked: "I've got a pure bouffant – it's totally out of control a lot of the time". We think he meant all of the time. It's perhaps no surprise crocked Jimmy managed to find time to appear in an eyebrow-raising ad for Wash & Go.
2: Rob McDonald 1974-79 Appearances: 25 (2) It was hard to tell where Rob McDonald's head ended and his huge hair started. But this forgotten man of Hull City's strikeforce managed 25 appearances for City before a remarkable career in Europe which took him around 12 clubs including PSV Eindhoven and Sporting Lisbon. With a slightly toned-down bonce, he then went on to manage another nine clubs in Europe and currently coaches in Holland.
1: Tom Huddlestone 2013-current Appearances: 58 (4) There could only be one winner of course. As a Tottenham Hotspur player, Tom "Sideshow Bob" Huddlestone accepted a charity challenge not to cut his hair until he scored. Unfortunately for Tom, and London's fashionable hairstylists, he then hit a two-and-a-half year drought until finally bagging a goal in December 2013 after he had joined Hull City. By then fans were worried his massive bouffant may have been affecting his pace. Tom quickly had his mane shorn off and sold the barrow-load of clippings to raise a barrel load of cash for Cancer Research.
