THIS driver in Hull must have been off their trolley. So desperate to save a walk to the supermarket, they squeezed their Red Renault Clio into a trolley bay. Elsewhere the driver of another Clio parked their car in a space clearly marked for motorcycles at Anlaby Marks and Spencer store – apparently just to get closer to the doors.
It seems many more motorists are also guilty of questionable parking in and around Hull and now some of the worst offenders are being shamed on a Facebook page called Bad Parking Cars – Hull, which invites motorists to upload photographs of cars parked badly.
It is gathering popularity with more than 3,000 "likes".
The creator of the page, who has asked not to be named, believes the page is proving a hit because people can identify with it and recognise the places in the pictures.
He said: "The reason for launching the page is to show how incompetent or selfish people can be when parking their vehicle.
"The name and idea for the page came from other websites that do a similar thing nationally.
"It's harmless fun and it's just one of those things that gets on a lot of people's nerves.
"I think bad parking gets on people's nerves because it only takes seconds to straighten up your car once you have parked in a space."
Images already shared include cars parked across yellow lines, cars parked across four parking spaces, on grass verges, on zebra crossings and on pavements.
Each one has several comments from other users on the page.
Most offences are caught in shopping centres and supermarket car parks.
The page creator said the most common pictures he receives are from people who have spotted badly parked cars in the Tesco car park at St Stephen's shopping centre.
He said: "There are quite a few really bad ones, but the worst ones are of cars blocking pedestrian access by parking on crossings – such as in St Stephen's, on a regular basis.
"One of the best pictures received was one where someone had left the handbrake off and the car rolled out of the space and into the road – luckily not causing any damage or accidents."
He said he hopes the site will encourage people to park considerately. He said: "We are pleased with the response to the page, a few people have commented to say that in future they will park correctly in case they end up on the page."
Anyone who sees a badly parked car is invited to take a photograph, if it is safe to do so, and upload it to the page.
