HUMBERSIDE Police is set for its first female chief constable.
Police and crime commissioner Matthew Grove today announced Justine Curran as his chosen candidate to replace Tim Hollis, who will leave the force in March.
She is currently Chief Constable of Tayside Police, in Scotland.
The decision will have to be confirmed by the police and crime panel next month before the appointment is made official.
Mr Grove said Ms Curran was "an outstanding leader".
"I always said this would be the most significant decision I would make," he said.
"I am delighted to have secured the services of an outstanding leader with a proven track record.
"Justine clearly brings sound experience as an existing chief constable, having worked in some extremely challenging areas of the country."
Ms Curran said: "I am delighted to be put forward as the new Chief Constable of Humberside Police.
"I look forward to moving to the area with my family and getting down to work in this important and challenging role."
After joining Greater Manchester Police in 1988, Ms Curran worked her way up to the rank of chief inspector in Manchester city centre.
She moved to Merseyside Police as superintendent, where she was responsible for commanding high-profile events such as the Grand National, before returning to Manchester as a divisional commander.
In February 2007 she was appointed assistant chief constable and led the development of neighbourhood policing. She later took on responsibility for the counter terrorist unit.
Ms Curran moved to Tayside as deputy chief constable in February 2009 and was promoted to chief constable the following year.
She has nearly 1,000 followers on Twitter, where she posts as @CCTayside
