Severe weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued by the Met Office, including for parts of East Yorkshire.
The "yellow" warnings mean "be aware" and have been issued for this afternoon and tomorrow morning.
Showers are expected this afternoon and this evening, and there is a possibility these could turn to snow, especially over the Wolds.
A Met Office spokesman said: "Although not all places will see the showers, and some of the lighter ones will fall as rain or sleet at low levels, further accumulations of snow will occur during the heavier ones, especially over the hills and higher ground such as the Moors, Wolds and Pennines.
"Many areas will see very little snow accumulation but as much as 2cm to 5cm is expected over higher ground and perhaps as much as 10cm very locally.
"The showers will slowly die out from the south of the region after midnight but will leave a legacy of icy patches."
Temperatures are likely to remain just above freezing in Hull, but will drop below zero further inland.
