HUNDREDS of bargain hunters braced the cold to grab a Boxing Day bargain. The queue for the Next sale at St Stephen's Shopping Centre started at 1.30am.
A staff member said there were about 700 people in the queue when the doors opened at 6am. Linda Buka, 29, from Hull, arrived in the queue at 4am. She said: "They were handing out tickets. I was 300th in the queue. "It's been good. I was surprised how many people were there. "People were just putting items in their basket without looking at the sizes. "There were some big discounts." Debenhams was open from 7am today, while the House of Fraser winter sale started online at noon on Christmas Eve, while the discounts in store started at 8am today. Dozens of shoppers were also queuing outside Tesco and Schuh in St Stephen's for first choice on the sales. Kathryn Shillito, city centre manager at retail group Hull Bid, said there are bargains to be had across the city. She said: "The smaller retailers do tend to follow what the department stores do, so there will be some good bargains around."
