NEIGHBOURS have spoken of their shock after a 26-year-old man died after a disturbance at a house in west Hull.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Catherine Grove shortly after 10.30pm on Monday, where the man, who police haven't named, was found with life-threatening injuries.

He was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary but died from his injuries that night.

Two men – one in his 50s and one in his 20s – have been arrested.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, reported hearing screams shortly after 10pm.

Another nearby resident, Vicky Roberts, 24, said: "It was quite a shock. I couldn't sleep all night.

"The guy who died is only a few years older than me.

"There were a lot of police and I looked out of the window and saw them trying to resuscitate the man in his garden."

Residents said there were up to 20 police officers investigating at the scene.

James Myers, 22, said: "I didn't really know who lived there. They moved in a couple of weeks ago and kept themselves to themselves.

"I saw the man being pulled out on a stretcher so I knew it must be something serious.

"It is quite a shock. You don't expect something like this to happen on your doorstep."

No one from the police would comment as to how the 26-year-old man had died.

A Humberside Police spokeswoman said: "Police and ambulance attended the property, where a 26-year-old man was found with life-threatening injuries.

"Paramedics treated the injured man at the scene and conveyed him to Hull Royal Infirmary, where he sadly died shortly before midnight as a result of the injuries sustained.

"Two local men – one in his 50s and one in his 20s – have been arrested in connection with the man's death and are currently in police custody.

"Detectives in Hull are continuing to work to establish the circumstances leading to the incident which caused the man to lose his life."

Lisa Sargeant, who lives on the corner of Catherine Grove, said the 26-year-old had moved into the house, in the shadow of the new Boulevard Academy, with his brother and his brother's girlfriend.

She said: "Bless him, it is terrible what has happened. He is the same age as my son.

"He was a quiet kid who did not seem to bother anyone. He was always polite and friendly to me.

"On Monday night there was a lot of banging around and about 20 minutes later I saw an ambulance and police."

Police officers were yesterday carrying out house-to-house inquiries.

Ms Sargeant said: "I saw the police looking along the footpaths scanning the floors with torches.

"Forensics were here for hours."

Humberside Police Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Donald praised the officers involved in the case.

Yesterday morning, Mr Donald posted on Twitter: "Excellent detective work overnight following death of man in Hull."
