HDM Sport on Facebook IT'S probably a sign that you're getting old(er) when you can remember players only ever wore black boots on a matchday. Nowadays, they are in a minority – and that's official. According to research carried out by the Press Association during the last round of Premier League fixtures, only 15 per cent of players starting games wore black – and Hull City had the most. The Tigers were the most 'old school' side in their 2-0 defeat at Chelsea, with six men pulling on black pairs of boots in Steve Bruce's starting line-up. Not that it helped to get a result against the multi-coloured boot-wearing Blues, who would not even know what a black boot looks like! They were one of four teams not to wear the colour at all, joined on the list by Stoke, Leicester and Everton. Perhaps surprisingly, white boots are the most popular and make up 47.7 per cent of all those worn. Leicester are most fond of them, with nine of their starting XI lacing them up.Hull City boots v Chelsea: Black 6, white 4, green & blue 1.Chelsea boots v Hull City: White 5, green 2, green & blue 2, pink 1, turquoise 1.Taylor ready for battle at KC Back to playing matters, and Swansea are getting ready for a scrap at the KC Stadium this weekend. The Swans lost at Tottenham on Sunday and will be bidding to end their away-day blues on their fourth trip to the KC Stadium, having lost there three times previously without scoring. But defender Neil Taylor knows a battling display is needed when Garry Monk's men go in search of a first top-flight travelling triumph since the opening day of the season. "We were talking to Michel (Vorm) after the Tottenham game and he said one of their hardest games of the season was against Hull up there because they're physical," the left-back told the South Wales Post."Steve Bruce's teams always look to bounce back and they'll see this as a game they can win as well after a couple of tough games. "We've got Hull and Villa next. They're two games that we'll aim to get wins against, but we're under no illusions about the fact that they can be even tougher games than Tottenham was."Tigers subs heading to Old Trafford Hull City's under-18s were given reason for cheer last night, thanks to a win for Manchester United. Why? Because the Red Devils 1-0 success over Bury ensured the young Tigers will now head to Old Trafford for a memorable FA Youth Cup clash. A goal from Zach Dearnley secured the win and means City will head to the Theatre of Dreams on January 17.

Alnwick is a chip off Harper block Tigers keeper Steve Harper was a bit of a legend on Tyneside to say the least and now young Newcastle keeper Jak Alnwick is being tipped to follow in his footsteps. Toon Army boss Alan Pardew is having to turn to the 21-year-old because of injuries to Tim Krul and Rob Elliott. He made a losing full debut in the 4-1 loss at Arsenal on Saturday, but Pardew insisted he should have been protected better by his defence. Alnwick, who will be between the posts for tonight's game with Tottenham Hotspur and the derby with Sunderland on Sunday, is being tipped to cope with the pressure in the same laid-back way Harper always did. Pardew told the Newcastle Chronicle: "His personality sort of works as a goalie. He is a calm and kind of laid-back. He isn't unlike Steve Harper in terms of his manner really. "If I'm a defender I prefer that type of goalie than a jumpy around one, he's been very, very confident. "I felt a little bit for him on Saturday when he got exposed a bit too much."
