ANTISOCIAL behaviour and vandalism at a popular park has reduced after extra police patrols were drafted in.

Residents recently raised concerns about an increase in crime at the park in Stroud Crescent East.

Bins were being wrecked and broken glass left on the ground. There were also reports of littering and dog fouling.

Since then, police have increased patrols around the park and a new neighbourhood network group has been created for residents.

Hull City Council's Street-scene team and the estate's park rangers have also been out clearing up litter.

Bransholme West councillor Helene O'Mullane, who helped to officially open the park in November last year, said: "Tackling the problems in Stroud Crescent East has been one of my priorities because it is supposed to be a lovely setting for children to get out, exercise and have some fun.

"The police and North Carr Area Team have put in hard work to sort the problems and we are now seeing an improvement.

"Bins have been refitted and there have been very few problems recently.

"There are hardly ever any problems in this area and we want to keep it that way."

The £30,000 facility was officially opened by pupils from St Mary Queen of Martyrs Primary School in Nidderdale.

They had worked with designers and the North Carr Area Team to draw up the plans.

Plans to expand the park are now being considered.

The facility, made entirely of wood, has been extremely popular since it opened.

Cllr O'Mullane said: "The children deserve somewhere nice to relax and play and get that release from their school studies," she said.

"We have had an absolutely brilliant response from children and parents since we opened it."

Anyone who witnesses antisocial behaviour in the area should call Humberside Police on 101.
